Service Learning
An integral part of the Montessori learning philosophy is empowering children to make the world a better place. Even at age 2.5, we offer children opportunities to make a difference. By participating in events like the hop-a-thon, bike-a-thon, and the Senior Resource Center food drive, our primary students begin to understand the power of giving back to their communities and world.
In elementary and middle school, students make and serve lunch at The Gathering Place, write persuasive letters to companies with suggestions on increasing their environmental sustainability, fund a student’s education in Africa, write haikus for children in Japan, work at World Vision Colorado, and volunteer for our local park service – and that’s a sampling of how the kids have been involved in service learning in just the past six months.
Students, ultimately, inspire us by what they start without our direction! For example, lower elementary students held bake sales to contribute to programs that protect the rainforest, an upper elementary student collected stuffed animals as a way to comfort ill children, and middle school students worked in a Spanish-speaking only Headstart Program designed to help children of migrant workers. One of our alumnus went even one step further and she started her own community service club as a freshman in high school.

- My two girls are respectful, mature, and can easily converse with people of all ages in a confident and articulate way. A huge part of this is because of their Montessori education. They were always challenged to be the best they could be, and it has been smooth sailing ever since!
