Mike Imperi

Head of School

If anything could rival Mike Imperi’s passion for educational leadership, it would be his work in the arenas of international education, adventure travel and community service. For sixteen years, he taught History, Asian Religions and Culture, and Psychology at the Singapore American School and coordinated student expeditions on five continents and eight countries. He raised funds for a medical clinic in India, a school in Nepal, an orphanage in Indonesia and twenty rural village schools in East Africa. He has summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania twice, Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, and attempted a summit on Mount Kang Yatze in Ladakh, India. Mike’s love of scuba diving and sea kayaking has taken him to numerous islands from Fiji to the Maldives

In 1999, Mike brought his international experience to Alexander Dawson’s Colorado school, in Boulder Colorado, where he taught World Cultures, Advanced Placement U.S. History, and Advanced Placement Comparative Government and Politics. He was a semi-finalist for the Disney USA Teacher of the Year in 2002, and he served as the Principal of the Middle School in Colorado from 2002-2007, prior to being named Head of School at The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mike has served as Head of School for 15 years at two independent schools. During his six years as Head of School in Las Vegas, he guided the school through the economic crash of 2008-2011, while keeping enrollment steady and balancing the budget every year of his tenure. Additionally, he innovated programs, expanded world language offerings and lowered teacher attrition considerably. His nine-year tenure as Head of School at the Vail Mountain School is highlighted by increasing enrollment by 25% and revenues by over 70%.

Additionally, Mike served for three years as Business Manager at the largest high school in the state of Florida and as the Head of the History Department at the Singapore American School. He also owned a private Montessori school for five years in Boulder, Colorado and a student adventure travel and service company based in Colorado.

Mike is married and has three adult daughters and two grandchildren, all currently living in Colorado.
