Toddler communities

The Montessori Toddler Communities are intentionally designed to meet the child’s rapidly growing emotional and cognitive abilities. This is a formative period for the development of personality, independence, trust, focus, critical analysis and problem solving. The classroom materials are designed to develop sensory perception, as well as motor, language, and math skills.

Positive development

The Montessori Toddler Community is also an authentic introduction to developing positive social interactions. Grace and courtesy lessons foster sharing, taking turns, and building compassion. Activities are designed to encourage group interaction, independence, and increased self-confidence.

Developmental benchmarks for Toddler at MSE

At MSE, students from 15 months (and walking well) to three years receive all of the benefits of the Montessori Toddler Community. Our benchmark for walking well is that a child can walk across the classroom (approximately 20 feet) holding a tray or object with both hands and not put it down or fall. The children are not expected to be toilet-trained to enroll in the program. As you work on toileting at home we recommend these resources:

“We felt strongly about our toddler starting his education with a Montessori base. We couldn't be more thrilled with his first year in toddler care - his teachers were loving and compassionate and we feel have helped him thrive. Watching the evolution of his vocabulary, confidence, and independence is amazing. The families have been lovely as well. We look forward to moving into primary."
