Montessori School of Evergreen

Mike Walthers

Primary Assistant

I started my journey as an educator back in the early 2000s. I always wanted to help students learn and be productive members of society. After twelve years in public education, I decided that I did not want to be a part of where education was heading so I ended up quitting teaching and took off into the private sector to explore new options.

After my son was born in 2019 I began to explore other options for education. Through reading, researching, and observing the Montessori methods I understood that education was much broader than what I initially understood. My family moved to Evergreen in 2021 and shortly after my son started in the toddler program at MSE. During that time I became a substitute teacher at MSE and eventually was hired on to be a full-time assistant at the primary level. Since then I have learned a lot about the philosophy and teachings that make the Montessori method so unique. I have seen not only my son, but the other students in our class, thrive by watching them become self-starters, curious as to how not only the classroom lessons benefit them but the social, self-aware, and emotional lessons they work on daily as well.

I am proud to be a part of a learning process that fosters individual growth and curiosity. I see the value of our students being community members that are growing to be helpful, caring, and independent as well as individuals that understand the potential for growth in education inside as well as outside of the classroom. I am committed to helping students achieve their highest selves in and out of the day-to-day curriculum. Learning is not only math, science, writing, and language, but also how to communicate and be a productive member of one's learning community and that is why I have chosen a profession as an assistant at MSE.
